Stomach cancer is bad. I know several people who’ve had it, and it killed them. The one that survived was 46 and aged 25 years from it. I can just imagine what it would do to a man of 86.
God bless the Senator. Lautenberg was a self-made multi-millionaire who turned to public service - not to get richer, but to serve.
And to those who question the Lautenberg legacy, remember that every time you fly commercial, you do so smoke-free because Frank Lautenberg sponsored and fought for legislation to ban smoking on domestic flights back when it wasn't popular to do so.
Of course, with this development, one can’t but wonder if Lautenberg should have stepped down while Jon Corzine was still in power so a Democrat could have been appointed. Now Lautenberg has to do a death march to prevent Christie from appointing a Republican. Sad, and unfortunate. Today, with Menendez’s stock falling like a rock, we don’t need this unfortunate turn of events. But we can't ask of Lautenberg to continue on; he was a trusted and good public servant, but now he must retire to focus on his health and make his peace with God. It's selfish to talk about Lautenberg hanging in on a death march.
Many in New Jersey strongly feel that Senator Lautenberg didn’t really do much for the residents of the state. He got a grand train station built, but it stands near empty. Regardless, our prayers are with Senator Lautenberg, and I hope he can focus on his health and his family (the diagnosis was treatable, not curable) in this closing chapter.
Thank you Senator Lautenberg for your selfless service. America needs more men like you. God bless.
